I've had success with just Red Root Floaters in a 15 gallon. They're slower growing than Duckweed, so easier to manage. Water params stayed stable, but I did weekly 20% changes.

Not hard, just more steps than an HOB. More media capacity though, so better for bigger tanks. Takes about 30 minutes to clean if you're thorough.

Rinsing the media in tank water is usually enough unless it's falling apart. The bio rings can last years if you're gentle. How often do you usually clean it? I do mine every 3 months on a 55g with similar setup.

information on rusty cichlids

I've got a Rusty Cichlid that I'm having trouble caring for. I think it's a female, still pretty young, and about 2" long. Looking for someone to take her in, either buying or trading, preferably close to Philly – can't ship her out.

I'm always pretty cautious when it comes to adding new rocks to my tank. I've got a bunch from my neighborhood in there already, and I've learned to test them thoroughly before adding them in. I like to fill a bucket with water, check the parameters, then leave the rocks in for a day to make sure ...
