Re: my euphyllia has brown jelly, help!
If it's bacterial, a UV sterilizer might help long-term. Ever considered one? Also, what's your alk at now? Stability is everything with Euphyllia.

Re: my euphyllia has brown jelly, help!
Is the jelly slimy or more like a film? Slimy usually means infection, film could be stress. Any recent changes to feeding or additives? Also, what's your pH at?

Re: Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
I recall @Wells or @willie32 having issues with driftwood and ammonia - I'm pretty sure it was one of them, anyway.

Re: Is ammonia a concern in a new tank?
same issue here. I just wrote a long post in my 20gal journal about weird parameter stuff, and the ammonia thing stumped me too. I think I figured out what happened in my case: chloramine in the water, and rotting stuff in the filter and plant debris. The API test kit might not measure the ammonia ...

Re: High nitrate levels in a newly planted tank
I'm curious, have you worked with this substrate and fertilizers in other tanks before. It might be worth testing them out in a separate container for a week to see if they're leaching anything into the water.
Also, have you checked your tap water for nitrates. If your tap water already has high ...

Re: Is my betta fish sleeping too much?
I think it's best to adjust the pH with water changes, rather than using a product. If you notice the pH starts creeping higher than your normal tap water over time, it's worth considering what in the tank might be causing it - it could be the decor, like rocks, or even the sand. But if your tap pH ...

Re: Is my betta fish sleeping too much?
I'm not convinced oxygenation is the main issue here, although I do think there are test kits available - they're just not that reliable due to oxygen dissolving into water relatively quickly.
To test for hardness, you'll want to pick up an API GH/KH test kit.

Re: Is my betta fish sleeping too much?
I'm wondering if the move itself might be the culprit here. How far away is your college from where you're living now? Could the tap water be different enough to cause some stress for your betta? What's your pH looking like? And has the water hardness changed at all?
I'm also curious about your ...

Re: A low-tech fully planted nano aquarium project
Hi, welcome to the world of aquatic gardening. Going from terrestrial to aquatic, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ambient humidity, for instance, has little effect except on evaporation rates, which your lid should minimize.

Re: finding a trustworthy breeder
I'm pretty sure I recall @Deanasue having experience with a betta sorority tank, so it might be worth reaching out to her for some insight. If I'm totally off base, my apologies.
