Re: is discus tank too warm?

Rider wrote: Fri Jun 13, 2025 11:06 am Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll dial it back to 83°F and monitor. Heater's a Fluval E300, and I've got a backup thermometer coming tomorrow.
Smart move. Fluval's decent, but always good to verify. How often do you clean your filter media? Clogged media can cause temp swings.

Re: discus tank substrate pros cons

Dark sand mimics their natural habitat best. I use Estes Marine Sand in my 180-gallon, and the colors pop. Filtration's handled by dual FX6s, and I change 25% water daily for fry. Adults get beef heart mix every morning, brine shrimp at night.

Absolutely. Noticed my Discus show better ...

Re: Tips for relocating fish

lainus wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 7:37 am Don't forget to save some of your filter media to kickstart the cycle in the new tank. And maybe do a water change a day before to ensure clean water for the trip.
Solid advice. Also, keep the tank setup simple at first. Don't rush to rescape until everything's stable.

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish

Agree with throttling the FX4. I run mine at 50% for my 100g Discus tank. Also, ensure your driftwood isn't creating dead zones. Uneven flow can freak them out. What's your tank's footprint? Longer tanks distribute flow better.

Re: Discus not growing as expected

Yo, sounds like your setup's mostly solid, but 4 months is sketchy if they're still tiny. What's the water change routine? Gotta do 50% at least twice a week for juvies. Also, beef heart's good but maybe cut the flakes, they're kinda weak for growth. Try more live food like blackworms if you can ...

Discus not growing as expected

My Discus are about 4 months old but seem way smaller than they should be. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate under 10ppm. I feed them 4 times a day with a mix of flakes, frozen bloodworms, and beef heart. They eat fine but just don't grow. Any ideas?

discus spawning cone diy ideas

I'm setting up a breeding tank for my Discus and need ideas for DIY spawning cones. What materials work best? My tank is 40 gallons, with a sponge filter, sand substrate, and a few Java ferns. Water is at 84°F, pH 6.5, and I do 30% water changes twice a week.

Craftsman wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 11:50 pm Garlic guard's a good shout. Also, how's the tank decor? If it's too bare, they might feel exposed. Adding some tall plants or driftwood could make them feel safer.
True, and if they're new, they might still be settling in. Sometimes it just takes time. Keep an eye on them, but don't panic yet.

Re: why does my discus refuse to eat?

Good call. Let us know if it helps. If not, might be worth a round of general cure just in case. Sometimes they're picky for no obvious reason.
