Re: information on yellow box fish
I've got a little fella that's about 5" now, got him when he was tiny, just 1" long, a year ago. The small ones aren't the best swimmers, but once they get a bit bigger they're fine in a high flow tank, their tails are quite solid and the fins are good, mine zooms around the tank no problem. I'm ...

Re: are you aware of this?
Deep pockets, short arms - that's me. There's some decent stuff on Ebay right now, I've got my eye on a blue carpet Anemone, they're pretty rare to come across for sale. Never bought livestock from Ebay before, so we'll see how it goes.

Re: looking for a wrasse
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, zenoxa the two you mentioned are really standing out, especially the Thalassoma bifasciatum - what a stunning fish. I've got a few bristle worms I wouldn't mind getting rid of, so that's a bonus. In terms of pricing, how do these compare to the others mentioned?

looking for a wrasse
I've decided I want a wrasse for my reef system, but now I'm stuck on which type to get. Got a large boxfish in the tank and I don't want a wrasse that's gonna harass it, trying to clean it. That's gonna end in disaster, with the boxfish getting stressed and wreaking havoc. So, that rules out a lot ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
I'm stunned by the sheer length of your last post, it's clear you've got way too much time on your hands. I've had plenty of PMs from people who agree you're coming across as an absolute idiot.
You still seem to be missing the point though. I said if their max size was 30cm, I must have seen all ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
You can keep throwing around those 'scientific' terms all you want, but I'm not buying it. To be honest, I find it quite pitiful that you spend all your time buried in books. It's almost as if you've got nothing better to do with your life.
Now, if you want to get all scientific, I've found a ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
I love how forums like these get people who think they're experts just because they've read a book.
I've actually dived and seen these fish in their natural habitat, not just looked at them in a tank. If you just google Taeniura lymma, you'll see that most websites list their max size as way over ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
I've just had a chat with a mate who's also a seasoned diver and I mentioned the 30cm disk size, he just burst out laughing. Apparently, Taeniura lymma can reach a massive disk diameter of up to 1 meter, which makes me think my memory isn't as dodgy as I thought.

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
Every spotted ray I've seen in the Red Sea seemed to be fully grown, their disks were huge, easily over 30cm. My retic rays' disks don't usually get that large, but they've got much longer tails, which is where they get their size from. The ones I saw were identified as blue spotted rays by our dive ...

Re: information on the blue spotted ray
I'm not looking to keep marine rays myself, just curious about their mortality rate and specific needs. I've got my hands full with my freshwater rectic rays, they're demanding enough, so I can only imagine marine rays are a whole different ball game. I think the size of these rays is a major issue ...
