Re: Poll on ocellaris clownfish

You might be able to make do in a small space, but that doesn't mean it's ideal. Just like how you could get by in a tiny apartment, but wouldn't you rather have a big house with plenty of room to breathe? For clowns, a minimum of 30 gallons is really the way to go if you want them to live their ...

Re: Raising plate coral babies: next steps

Wouldn't it be something if all corals responded like this after a loss. The coral market would certainly take a hit. As for your questions, I'd recommend carefully clipping the babies off with bone cutters - that should be easy enough. Then, consider mounting them on plugs, giving them room to grow.

I've got a couple of no-name acros that are among my favorites, and they're super colorful. When I first got 'em, they were mostly white, but they've really popped since then.

Re: Should i relocate my coral for better growth

Alk swings are pretty rough on acros. Other corals seem to handle it better, but for these guys, it's a different story. Keeping alk and ca stable 24/7 is key - that way you'll rarely run into issues.

Re: Dartfish behavior observed

I've had my own share of dealing with finicky fish, especially my fire fish - it's got this annoying habit of locking itself into a cave with its top fins and refusing to budge, even when predators like crabs and bristle worms are closing in. I've lost count of how many times I've had to rescue it ...

That mouth would've had its benefits, I reckon. That's definitely a chalkie, by the way... that's what I've always known 'em as, anyway.

Re: information on new blenny...

I think it's more likely a Chalk Goby, the Six Spot Sleeper Goby doesn't quite match the description of a pure white body with purplish dots.

Re: What's more beneficial for lps growth

I'd say more whites than blues works better for LPS growth, in my experience. But to be honest, it's not just about the lighting - your alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels need to be consistently within range too.

I went back and re-read the original post, and I'm not seeing where the OP ...

Re: What's more beneficial for lps growth

I think you're underestimating how much your LPS is actually getting from that morning sun. I've got a similar setup with my tank catching some afternoon sun, and while it's nice, the par it adds is actually pretty low. I recall measuring it and it was only around 10, so not a huge difference. I'm ...

Re: Two-part question on coral id

Don't let it get out of hand. Crush the vermetid snail with pliers ASAP or you'll be dealing with a massive infestation.
