Another thing to consider is temperature. Water Sprite prefers temps between 72-82°F. If your tank is outside that range, it might contribute to the melt.

Have you checked your water hardness? Soft water can sometimes cause melt in Water Sprite. Aim for a GH around 6-8.

True, but watch the size. In a 20-gallon, they might take over. Maybe go for a smaller variety like Echinodorus Parviflorus.
