Re: information about clown fish
A 10-gallon tank is likely on the edge, but it's not entirely too small, assuming you keep the bioload in check by limiting the number of fish and invertebrates like snails. A nano setup isn't inherently more difficult, it just requires more frequent checks and therefore a bit more discipline on the ...

Re: ideal salinity for coral reef tank
Yeah, 7.5 dKH is on the low side for Acros. I'd aim for 8.5 like Vynix said. Also, if you're not already, consider dosing two-part to keep things stable. Big swings in alk can stress them out more than slightly off salinity.

Re: ideal salinity for coral reef tank
1.025 is solid for most corals, but Acros can be picky. What's your alkalinity sitting at? If it's below 8 dKH, that might be the real issue. Also, how old are your bulbs? T5s lose intensity after about 9 months.

Re: Is a 10-gallon saltwater fish tank a viable option
Those points cross my mind, even if the fish wouldn't really care.
Considering FO or FOWLR: if you need medication or special treatment, you don't have to worry about sensitive corals.
Reef, on the other hand, has corals that serve as good water quality indicators.

Re: Dosing for lps corals
Just monitor your alk levels closely and ensure they're stable before adding more stonies. As mentioned earlier, it's crucial to maintain a steady level. Coral doesn't contribute to the bio load unless you're feeding it directly, so that's something to keep in mind.

Re: need assistance right away
I'm curious to know how your coflakes are doing, as the whole story doesn't quite add up.
If the fish are stressed, I'd expect to see the same with the coflakes.
In a normal setup, where invertebrates are added first, 0.5 ppm Ammonia and Nitrite should stress the coflakes first, followed by the ...

Re: My new clownfish have arrived
Generally speaking, it's not uncommon for clown fish to take some time getting used to their new surroundings. I'd give 'em a few days of peace and quiet before introducing new foods to their diet. Having some mysis shrimp on standby is also a good idea, just in case they're a bit finicky about ...

Re: My new clownfish have arrived
Mine did the same thing when I first got them, they stuck to one corner for a bit. I was worried but they came out of it after a while. If you're still concerned, you could try switching off the lights for a bit, see if that helps them settle in.
Solo or with tankmates, always a dilemma.
I've ...

Re: Coral pricing and value
Check local listings for a better gauge of prices in your area. Around here, you can find frogspawn and hammers for about $10-15 per head, and the duncan usually goes for less. I've noticed that my local fish store tends to overcharge - they want an arm for a single duncan, a leg for a frogspawn ...

Re: Is old school coral keeping making a comeback
I've been browsing zoas on sale sites like E-bay and I've noticed something that's been bugging me. They take an old zoa, give it a fancy new name, and suddenly it's "cutting edge" and super desirable. I'll be scrolling through different sites and see some "new and rare" zoa with an outrageous ...
