Re: Sarcophyton care on a budget

Thanks, all. I'll try the egg crate trick and check my bulb age. It's not near any other corals, so maybe it's just a phase.

Sarcophyton care on a budget

I've got a Sarcophyton in my 40-gallon tank, but it's not opening up like it used to. My budget's tight, so I can't splurge on fancy gear. What's the cheapest way to keep it happy? Running a basic LED light, weekly 10% water changes, and parameters are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.

Re: ATO setup for stable salinity

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Gonna test my refractometer first, then look into a bigger reservoir. Appreciate the help!

ATO setup for stable salinity

I've been struggling to keep my salinity stable with my current ATO setup. It's a 75-gallon mixed reef with a Tunze Osmolator, but I'm seeing swings from 1.025 to 1.027. Anyone got tips to dial it in better?

Re: Aquarium shopping essentials

One more thing: if you're planting, get tweezers and scissors. Trying to shove Anubias into substrate with your fingers is like performing surgery with oven mitts.

Re: Aquarium shopping essentials

Honestly, a gravel vacuum. Sounds dumb but I skipped it my first time and regretted it hard when the substrate got nasty. Got a Python one now, way easier than scooping crap out with a cup.

Yep, gravel vacs are lifesavers. Also, test kits. Don't cheap out on strips, get the liquid ones. API ...
