Definitely a female, I've been breeding these for ages. The males always have a fuller, more muscular build and a better-defined shape. Their tail's a dead giveaway too, it's that distinctive D shape. This one's body shape screams female to me, you can see it in the way the stomach's curved.

Re: Growing riccia with success
I'm trying to figure out the ideal spots in my tank for riccia growth. What are the best locations for it? Also, what kind of fertiliser and lighting does it require?
I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, riccia seems to thrive when it's floating near the light source. One issue I've ...

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
As a parent myself, I must say I'm shocked by the stocking plan you've outlined. I would never dream of pairing a red-tailed shark with discus - it's a recipe for disaster. In my opinion, discus are best kept alone, without the stress of other fish competing for resources. And as for the number of ...

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
Honestly, I'm starting to think the tank might not be spacious enough for the discus, and that's a concern for me. I mean, I've heard they can thrive in smaller tanks, but only if you're okay with them being a bit stressed and not reaching their full potential.
I'll scratch the redtail black ...

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
I've been reading up on this and most of the articles I've come across say a 55 gallon tank is fine for 6 discus. They mention something like 5-10 gallons per discus, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Would even 6 not fit in my 66 gallon tank, considering I'm willing to do large water changes ...

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
I came across another post here saying the bare minimum for discus is 16" in height, but that's from way back in 2007 - is that considered outdated info now?

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
I've been reading up on discus sizes and I'm shocked - I thought they only reached 5 inches max, with some varieties going up to 8. But now I'm hearing they can grow way bigger. I'm seriously worried about the space in my tank. I know we've already ordered them, but we could always resell them if ...

Re: Changing my stocking plan, again
I'm starting to think that 10 discus might be too much for my tank, especially with the other fish I'm planning to add. I mean, I've got a 66gal tank, but I'm not sure if it's tall enough for discus - they're pretty tall fish, right? And I'm also a bit worried about the water temperature for the ...

Changing my stocking plan, again
Honestly, I'm changing my plans again, but can you really blame me? I've got a 48x18x18" tank, and it's about to get even more interesting.
Right now, I've got 7 Angels - 5 juveniles and 2 full-grown males - and 22 Albino Congos that are almost adults. I know, I know, it's overstocked, but I was ...
