Re: Algae Issues in Reef Tank

Nice, Trochus are solid. Just watch out, they're kinda clumsy and might knock over loose frags. Also, if you're running chemipure, make sure it's not expired. That stuff loses its mojo after a few months. How old's your current batch?

Good point on the chemipure. OP, consider switching to a ...

Re: Algae Issues in Reef Tank

Yo, that's a bummer. Hair algae's a pain, but you can cut it back. First, how often you doing water changes? I had a similar vibe in my 60 gallon, and bumping changes to twice a week helped. Also, maybe dial the lights back to 6 hours for a bit. What's your phosphate at? High phosphates feed that ...

Re: Amazon sword plants experiencing summer die-off

I wholeheartedly agree with the points raised by MrGuppy, coltin, and Snout. In my opinion, it's essential to take a step back and assess the situation by making a list of potential changes that could be contributing to the issue with your Amazon Sword. This list should encompass various factors ...

Re: Being the sole survivor

It's like when you have a litter of kittens or puppies, there's usually one that stands out. This little guy must have had something going for him to be the only one to make it. Now, I'm curious - what made the difference? Was it something with the water parameters, or maybe the breeding process, or ...

Re: Keeping snails safe under gravel

No idea what type of snail you are referring to but in my experience, most snails especially pond snails do fine. They routinely burrow into the gravel/substrate.

Re: Growing plants emersed in your aquarium

Before you start buying expensive plants, I'd recommend doing some thorough research. If you've got an extra aquarium with a glass lid lying around, that's a great place to start - you can often find them cheap at yard sales. I'm pretty sure there are some threads in our plant section about growing ...

Re: Growing plants emersed in your aquarium

I plan on growing them emersed to start, then transferring them to my aquarium once they're established, I've heard it's a great way to get a head start on plant growth.

Re: Growing plants emersed in your aquarium

I came across this video about growing aquarium plants emersed and apparently they grow way faster that way, so I was wondering if anyone here has experience with that. Is it even worth trying? I'm planning on giving hydrocotyle and Anubias nana a shot.

To answer your question, I've had great ...

Re: have you ever stopped to think about your tank?

The tank really does look great, everyone's right about that. What I think I'd do differently, if I'm being honest, is maybe remove some of the driftwood. It's a bit distracting from the rest of the plants, which are really thriving. Overall, though, it's a great setup - good job.

Re: Getting started with a walstad aquarium

Walstad tanks are truly wonderful if you do them right. I highly recommend reading Diana Walstad's book, Ecology and the Planted Aquarium - it's a game-changer. As a microbiologist, she brings a unique perspective to aquarium-keeping. I've found her method fascinating, although I admit it reads ...
