Re: the brothers

I've only had Max for about two weeks now. I'll admit, I never thought I'd be a betta owner - their reputation for being feisty had me sticking to community tanks with peaceful fish. That was until I brought home Nina and Pinta, my veiltail Angel Fish.

Those two are quite the handful, always ...

Re: the brothers

Lovely trio you have there, what's the mix of betta breeds for Blackadder, Baldric, and Flashheart. I've recently found myself learning more about bettas, thanks to a surprise addition to my family - didn't plan on having one, but here I am giving it a shot. I've got a thread about my little guy, if ...

Re: Characteristics of the betta splendens personality

I'm starting to think Max is a bit slow on the uptake. When I feed him, he misses the food completely. I drop a few pieces near him, but he swims right under it and ignores it. I end up dropping more in and leaving him alone. Later, I see him approach the food and nibble at it. The thing is, he only ...

Re: Characteristics of the betta splendens personality

I think I just need to give it more time with Max to see how his personality develops. I remember the day we got him from the pet store - my niece and I were looking at all the Bettas in their little cups. She actually picked Max out, but I was eyeing this beautiful half-moon Betta with a gorgeous ...

Characteristics of the betta splendens personality

I recently brought home my first Betta, Max, and I'm curious to know about the personalities of Bettas from experienced keepers.

I've only had Max for about a month, and he's currently living in a 29-gallon tank with a snail as his tankmate. When I try to interact with him, he doesn't seem too ...

Re: A question about my betta's care

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I want to start by saying I'm glad you're excited about your new betta, but I also want to make sure you're prepared for the journey ahead. Keeping a lone betta can be a bit more complicated than it seems, and I've seen many new fish keepers, including myself ...

Re: is my tap water safe to drink?

@floras I'm keeping Bettas and a few shrimp. To be honest, I'm not really sure how the salt in my water softener affects the water quality for them.

Re: is my tap water safe to drink?

Honestly, it's tough to give a straight answer without knowing your aquarium's specifics. The type of fish you're keeping plays a huge role - some species are fine with hard water, while others need it soft.

Do you have GH and KH test kits handy? Test your water before and after the softener to see ...

Re: Farewell to the beloved bilbo

Sorry to hear about your loss. To avoid this in the future, you should consider quarantining new fish before adding them to your community tank. This can help prevent the spread of disease or parasites. If you don't have a separate quarantine tank, you can easily set up a temporary one using a ...

Re: Getting started with bettas

If I'm being honest, getting a baby boy betta sounds like the way to go. You get to raise him from the start and enjoy his whole life. The thing is, you never really know how old a betta is when you buy from a pet store or breeder. I've read stories of some living for years, while others die of old ...
