Re: kribensis breeding experiences?

What's the tank size, mate? Shouldn't have issues with them pairing off, but if they do, the other fish will be the ones with the trouble. Kribs go mental when they're protecting their young.

Re: kribensis breeding experiences?

The male kribs' dorsal fin usually has a sharp point at the end. Sounds like you've got the sexing right, one male and two females. To breed them, just keep 'em well fed and do regular water changes, shouldn't be a problem. I've had a good few successful breeding attempts with minimal trouble. I ...

Is this fish an algae eater?

I'm noticing some algae growth in my 75-gallon Mbuna setup, and I'm wondering if I should bring in some extra help or let the Demasoni handle it. I've got 12 White Labs and 20 Demasoni, and in the wild, Demasoni do pick at algae, but in my tank, they don't seem too interested. I'm leaning towards ...

Re: about malawi

I've got a mix of Demasoni and White Labs in my 75g, 20 of the Demasoni and 10 Labs, and so far so good, no major trouble. The Demasoni males will scrap with each other every now and then but that's just part of the deal.

Re: behavior of female kribensis

That's probably it. My female kribs were always the ones taking charge when breeding time rolled around. She's likely marking out a territory for spawning.

Re: keeping cichlids

My mbuna seem to hold anywhere from 21 to 28 days, so it's a pretty decent range. If you want the fry to have the best shot at survival without removing them, try creating a bunch of rock piles using small rocks for hiding spots. What type of cichlid is it, and what other fish are in the tank, by ...

Re: is my yellow lab holding?

I've had decent success with letting the female raise her fry in my African community tank. The survival rate might not be spectacular, but it's a heck of a lot better than tearing the whole tank apart and stressing everyone out. I just scatter some small rock piles around - not too much planning ...

Re: Lab with kribensis and yellow coloration

I'm sure you could make it work, I've seen some unusual fish combinations that surprisingly did fine. Different pH levels are required for both, but I've seen cichlids that prefer high pH thrive and breed in about 7.1pH. It's not your typical setup, like having cichlids from the same lake or discus ...

Pictures of fry

Here are a few pics of my White Lab and Brichardi babies. I've stripped the Lab eggs, but I'm gonna leave the other future batches in the main tank and see how it goes. My Lab fry are about 5 weeks old now, but I'm not entirely sure about the Brichardi - there are a few different generations in ...
