Is this a barracuda?
I stopped by my local fish store and they had a barrapyrope in a 125 gallon tank with dwarf lions, which I thought was pretty crazy. What's the minimum tank size you think would be needed for one of these? I was under the impression barrapyrope weren't commercially available, but I guess you can ...

Re: setting up a saltwater tank
I'm just sayin, give the live rock a bit of time to settle, you know, before you go addin' fish and all that.

Re: setting up a saltwater tank
I've had a similar experience transferring live rock from my 29 to my 55 gallon tank, and I can see why you're worried. If you transfer the sand and rock along with the old water, you should be okay, but I still had an ammonia spike the next day in my 55 gallon tank. I think it might've been due to ...

Re: setting up a saltwater tank
Even with the addition of pre-cured live sand and live rock, there will still be some die-off of the creatures. I would still recommend cycling the tank for a few weeks, around three, and make sure to skim during this period. What type of fish are you looking to introduce, and what's the size of ...

Re: Optimal water flow for hammer corals
Here's the updated pic of my little hammer coral - he's looking great and that makes me really happy. I've also noticed some smaller heads popping up around him, which is awesome. What usually causes them to branch out like that? Is it just something they do naturally or is there something specific ...

Re: Optimal water flow for hammer corals
It's looking good, I think your hammer coral's found a happy home. You've officially joined the ranks of us euphyllia enthusiasts, and trust me, it's a slippery slope.
When you're out picking up that Po4 test kit, grab the ones for calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity while you're at it. Knowing ...

Re: Optimal water flow for hammer corals
The tank's about 5 weeks old. I started with live rock, cycled in 10 days...then just let it sit till week 9, when I picked up a pair of clown fish. Got the coral a few days ago. Levels are all pretty normal - nitrates are around 20, so I'll do a water change soon. I'm running a 2-bulb T5 system ...

Optimal water flow for hammer corals
Hey guys, I just got my first coral and I'm absolutely loving it.
It's a tiny hammer frag and I'm curious to know if the flow is okay - I've got a 30 gallon tank with a 1200 gpu powerhead, so I thought I'd share a video and get your thoughts. Here it is...

Hammer coral care and maintenance
I saw something weird with my hammer coral today - it had this 1-inch brown stuff coming out of the center.
Got out of the shower, came back, and it was gone. I'm wondering if it was just a poop or if it was getting rid of extra zooxanthellae? Wish I'd taken a pic of it, but here's my coral - he's ...

Re: My new zoa colony
Looks like I've got some unwanted guests, possible bristleworm hitchhikers, though I'm not entirely convinced yet.
