Re: discus fry tank water changes
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Fry are about 3 weeks old, and my tap is pretty hard, around 200ppm. I'll grab an RO unit this weekend. Heater's steady, but I'll double check with a second thermometer. Substrate is bare bottom, and lights are on for 8 hours. Gonna cut that back too.

discus fry tank water changes
My discus fry aren't growing as fast as I expected. I've been doing 50% water changes every other day in a 20 gallon tank, temp at 84F, sponge filter, and feeding them beef heart mix 4 times a day. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate around 10ppm. Am I missing something?

Re: discus hiding behind filter fix
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try baffling the filter and adding more plants. I've got 5 discus, so maybe I'll add another. Water changes are 30% twice a week with Seachem Prime. I'll report back if things improve.

discus hiding behind filter fix
My discus keep hiding behind the filter in my 75 gallon tank. They're about 4 months old, and I've had them for 2 weeks. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, pH 6.8. Temp is steady at 84F with an Eheim heater. Tank has sand substrate, some driftwood, and a few Amazon swords ...

Do Bettas need a filter
I've heard mixed opinions on whether they need a filter. My tank is 5 gallons, no filter, just a heater set to 78F. Water changes every 3 days. They seem fine but wanna make sure I'm not missing something.

Re: Best Plants for Soft Water
I've tried Hornwort in my soft water tank. It grows fast and helps with water quality. Just be ready to trim it often.

Re: Discus Tank Help Please...!
I've had my fair share of experience with a 90g tall tank, and honestly, I wouldn't go that route again. The maintenance was a real hassle. But, on the flip side, my discus seemed to love the extra height and it did look pretty amazing.

Just got back from another trip, similar timeframe. Prep was the same, no issues, and the tank was really clean. All fish were fine, but I'm starting to feel uneasy about the whole situation. It feels unfair to the fish - what if one ...
