Re: Discus fry care for beginners

Thanks for all the tips! Gonna switch to daily water changes and grab some almond leaves. My pH is 6.8, hardness around 4 dGH. Using Seachem Prime for tap water. I'll test ammonia again tonight.

Np! Keep us posted. Oh, and if you see any fry with clamped fins, isolate 'em ASAP. Usually a sign ...

Re: Discus fry care for beginners

How old are the fry? If they're under 2 weeks, they might still be absorbing yolk sac energy. Overfeeding can crash water quality. Stick to small portions 4x a day. What's your ammonia reading? Even trace amounts can stall growth.

Re: Need to know the Discus Strain Name

These fish will be sold to stores or enthusiasts, and whatever you call them, that's what they'll be. Whoever buys them, there's a chance they'll forget the name. And honestly, who's gonna care?

Re: Need to know the Discus Strain Name

I've cross-bred my discus pair after months of keeping them together, and the offspring have unusual patterns. I've got some adult-sized fish I want to sell since I'm running out of space. Can anyone identify these unique discus? I'll upload pics ...

Re: what are the most resilient plants

I'd add that Zorchzon swords are pretty robust too, you'd have to try to kill them, and they're a sight to behold when they get big, plus they're great at soaking up ammonia.

Re: what are the most resilient plants

Java moss is another option, people have literally grown it outside of water and it still thrives. It grows steadily in any light, and I've heard of people throwing it away only to find it growing in their drain. It's a great choice because it doesn't need roots, instead it forms a lush green mat on ...

Re: MALE or FEMALE

The white discus seems to be female. I'd like a better look at the red one to determine its sex.

Re: Color Changing

Thanks for the tip Cliff, I'd love to try feeding Macrobrachium shrimp eggs to my Discus. Do you know where I can find those eggs? I'm curious to see if it'll enhance their colors.

Re: Color Changing

Re: Color Changing

Not to answer the question directly, but it's worth noting that some fish undergo color changes as they mature. For example, flamingo chicks are born white and turn pink due to their diet. Similarly, salmon get their red color from the food they eat. We can even influence the ...
