In my opinion, they seem to be the Nigeria yellow variant of P. taeniatus.

I'd suggest looking into Dicrossus maculatus, the Spade-tailed Checkerboard Cichlid - they're always on the move, curious about their environment. Kept mine in a 20 high, worked out well, had to relocate the fry to another tank for growth though.

I'd actually say it's a male. I've noticed that female dwarf gouramis are significantly less vibrant in color. What's more, they're rarely found in pet stores, which means many people haven't had the chance to see one firsthand. As a result, folks often misidentify the sex based on fin length alone ...

The coloration and body proportions of your ram suggest it's a male. However, I'd like to respectfully disagree with the assessment of the "breeding tube" - it appears more like a prolapse to me.

Males tend to have dorsal fins that are predominantly yellow, whereas females have dorsals with an orange edge. Females also tend to have a fuller body and grow to be larger in size.

Pretty confident the first one's a male, and I'm almost certain the second one's a female, so you probably did get a pair.

I'm inclined to think it's a female due to the stocky body shape, but the photo quality isn't great, making it tough to say for certain.

Can't be certain about the first two pics, but the third one's a female and the fourth one's a male.
