Re: Can you overdose beneficial bacteria?
Bacterial supplements are a crutch. A well-cycled tank shouldn't need them beyond the initial setup. Focus on stability: consistent temp, pH, and minimal chemical interference. What's your heater set to? Fluctuations can stress bacteria.

Re: Can you overdose beneficial bacteria?
Beneficial bacteria require ammonia to thrive. Adding more bacteria without sufficient ammonia source is pointless. Test your ammonia levels. If they're consistently zero, your existing colony is adequate. Reduce dosing to monthly or after major disruptions like medication.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try cutting back to once a week and see how they respond. Appreciate the help!

feeding schedule for mushrooms
I've been keeping a mixed reef for about two years now, and my mushrooms have been thriving, but I'm not sure if I'm feeding them enough. Right now, I spot-feed them Reef Roids twice a week, but they don't always open up for it. Tank is a 40-gallon breeder with AI Prime lighting, 78°F, salinity at 1 ...

Re: Why are my crypts not growing?
Crypts are notorious for melting when moved. Even if your tank conditions are perfect, they might still take months to recover. Patience is key. Also, what species of Crypts are they? Some are harder to grow than others.

Re: Cyphastrea care and maintenance
I'm curious about the growth rate of these cyphastrea corals - are they relatively fast or slow growers compared to other LPS? They remind me of montiporas, but with larger polyps, which got me wondering - do they grow at a similar pace to montis?

Re: Getting started with corals
I've had great experiences with Acans, they're definitely one of my favorite LPS corals. They're pretty resilient and can bounce back from a rough spot - I've seen them recover from almost nothing. They don't require a lot of light to thrive, although they'll definitely look more vibrant with better ...

Re: Flatworms on hammer corals
I recall using Levamesol pig de-wormer in my reef tank years ago to get rid of flatworms. It's not intended for aquarium use, but I had success with it. You can find info on it in some of the older threads here. The process is pretty straightforward - mix it up, and the flatworms will release their ...

Re: Lost my jawfish, can anyone help?
It's been nearly a week and I'm still none the wiser. The little blighter's vanished into thin air. If I finally lay eyes on it now, I'll be bloody fuming.

Re: Lost my jawfish, can anyone help?
Is your tank covered, Jawfish are notorious for jumping out.
Yeah, I've checked the floor around the tank too, nothing's turned up. Still a bit concerned, does anyone know how long jawfish usually stay hidden for after introduction? And is this kind of behaviour normal for a newly added jawfish ...
