Re: cryptocoryne melt - normal or not?
Crypt melt is pretty common when they're adjusting to new water conditions. What's your pH and hardness? They can be picky about sudden changes. Also, how often are you doing water changes? Too frequent changes can stress them out.
pH is around 7.2, hardness is moderate. I do 20% water ...

Re: No more tank deaths so far!
Quarantine's a lifesaver. Lost half my stock to Columnaris once because I skipped it. Never again.

Re: No more tank deaths so far!
Been a month since my last fish death. Tank's a 20 gallon with 6 Neon Tetras, 4 Corydoras, and a Betta. Parameters are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Using a sponge filter and weekly 25% water changes. Anyone else had a streak like this?
Nice work! Sponge filters are underrated for ...

Re: Help with a sick female betta
I haven't used any meds yet, I initially thought it was swim bladder but now I'm not convinced, so I don't want to medicate until I know what's going on.

Re: Help with a sick female betta
I've been careful with feeding lately, actually under feeding to get rid of a trumpet snail issue, but even with her isolated in the breeding net, she's still struggling on her side. I've tried offering blanched peas as a laxative, but she's not interested in eating them. She's still breathing ...

Re: Help with a sick female betta
My tank parameters are pretty standard - nitrite and chlorine are at 0, nitrates are at 1, pH is 6.8, and ammonia is slightly higher at 0.5.
The tank's been running for about a year now, so I'm pretty sure it's fully cycled. I've got a mix of platties, angels, corydoras, and cardinals in there ...

Help with a sick female betta
I'm really stumped about my female betta's health. Water parameters are all fine, and the other fish, including another female betta, seem perfectly fine. I've had her isolated in a breeding net for a few days now to rule out any aggression issues, and there's been no damage or signs of aggression ...

Re: Choosing the right plants for a betta tank
I've got hornwart in my betta tank and it's been a breeze to grow, really low maintenance.

Introducing larger dwarf neon rainbows to an existing young group
I've got a bit of a dilemma on my hands. I picked up 7 Dwarf Neon Rainbows a couple of days ago (11th Jan, to be exact), and they're tiny - about 2cm each, with some looking really underfed from the store. I'm thinking of adding some larger Dwarf Neon Rainbows to the mix, hoping the stronger fish ...
