Re: can discus eat flake food?
Glad to help. Just remember, consistency's key with these fish. If you're gonna switch foods, do it gradually over a week or so. My tank's got a mix of adults and juvies, and they all respond better to slow changes. Oh, and keep an eye on their poop—weird vibes there can mean digestion issues.

Re: can discus eat flake food?
Flakes can work, but they're not the best long-term option. I've used TetraMin flakes occasionally, but my fish prefer pellets or frozen. Make sure the flakes sink fast enough, or they'll just float and get ignored. My tank's got a canister filter, and I do 30% water changes twice a week ...

wavemaker placement for optimal flow
Setting up a new 75-gallon mixed reef and struggling with flow. Got two Nero 5s but can't figure out the best spots. Tried front corners pointing at each other, but my Acros aren't happy. Any tips?

Re: raising discus fry feeding tricks
Live food is the way to go. I culture my own daphnia and grindal worms. Fry in a 60-gallon, temp at 84°F, with a sump. Water changes 50% daily. They're growing fast and have great color. How's your lighting setup?

Also, check your water change routine. If you're using a gravel vac, make sure you're not stirring up too much debris. I switched to a slower siphon and it made a big difference in keeping the water clear.

Re: cloudy water in discus tank woes
Sounds like a bacterial bloom, dude. Happened to me last month. How old is the tank? If it's new, it might just need to chill for a bit. My 55-gallon did the same thing after I added a bunch of new plants. Took like a week to clear up.
Bacterial blooms are common, but let's rule out other ...

Re: Discus pest
As a hobbyist, I've been fortunate enough to steer clear of the discus plague by sticking to a single supplier for all my discus. Adding discus from different sources piecemeal is a major no-no.

I run a similar setup in my tank, same size as yours. Two 300w heaters, both connected to an Inkbird temp controller for precise control. I also keep an extra 300w on standby, just in case I need to bump up the temperature past 86 degrees F.
