Re: identifying the sex of my aquarium fish
I'd say this little guy, given its size, has at least 3 eggspots - might be more, hard to make out in the pic. Venting it when it's older will give you a definitive answer, but in my experience, some Africans are easier to sex than others. Yours seems pretty male-dominated, if you ask me. Egg spots ...

Re: identifying the sex of my aquarium fish
Going by appearance, I'd say it's probably a Red Zebra - Metriaclima estherae, possibly a hybrid. Most likely male, in my opinion. That "Cherry Zebra" label is a bit amusing - doesn't exist, unless it's a crossbreed, in which case it's still essentially a Red Zebra mixed with something similar ...

Re: identifying the objects
Left is female auratis, I'm pretty sure of that. Next one's a yellow lab, too young to tell if it's male or female. The third one, I think it's an albino red finned zebra, but honestly, can't tell the gender from that pic. Far right is likely a male auratis.

Re: Guppy quarantine duration?
Yeah, a month's chill. I've seen Guppies look fine at first, then boom, white spots after a week. Sketchy stuff. Better to play it safe.

Re: have i potentially caused future issues?
i actually did quite a bit of research and found that it is OK for kenyi and other malawi cichlids to enjoy a chopped finely prawn or mysis shrimp meal from time to time, once a week is the suggesteadsly. the rest of the time they eat cichlid pellets and high quality vegetable flake. i hope that ...

Re: have i potentially caused future issues?
Yeah, the kenyi are for sure the trouble makers of this tank... and I can see why, they're already getting pretty big. The bigger of the two is about 2 inches now, and I'm a little worried about their growth. I've heard that even in a community tank, there's usually one fish that becomes the boss ...

Re: have i potentially caused future issues?
If you're determined to keep them, a month or two in the 29 gallon might work, but after that, you'll need to upgrade to at least a 55 gallon tank. These fish are ridiculously aggressive, and I'm not kidding when I say they consider murder a sport. I keep Mbuna myself, but in a much larger tank, and ...

Re: can you help identify my fish
I've been reading through the info and I'm a bit concerned about the diet. I've been feeding her brine shrimp and mysis shrimp, but I just read that I should be giving her more vegetation. I've heard that if I don't feed her the right foods, she can get Malawi bloat, which sounds really bad.

Re: can you help identify my fish
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that particular cichlid undergoes a color change as it matures.
Only the males change color as they enter adulthood. However, I've noticed a slight color difference between males and females even at this size - I'm guessing this fish is around an inch or ...

Re: Keeping angels with cichlids?
When considering mixed African tanks, incompatibilities can arise due to the varied nature of the fish. You might have haps or Mbunas, and sometimes even accidental cross-breeding from a show tank, making it challenging to predict their compatibility.
