Re: Ideal phosphate levels for corals
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm using Instant Ocean salt and testing weekly with a Hanna checker. Last reading was 0.15 ppm, so I'll try reducing feedings and see if that helps.

Ideal phosphate levels for corals
My corals aren't growing as fast as they used to. I've heard phosphate levels might be the issue. What's the ideal range for them? My tank's a 40-gallon with mixed LPS and SPS, running a protein skimmer and T5 lighting.

Re: is fin rot still present?
Update:
No major improvements, but no decline either. Did a deep clean on the tank and giving the salt treatment another shot. Still some fungus-like stuff on the tip of his dorsal fin, but other than that, he's his usual self. Here's a clip of him trying out the new freeze-dried shrimp.

Re: is fin rot still present?
Things are taking a turn for the worse - his fins are curling up and breaking off at the ends now. Daily water changes and adjusting salt levels haven't made a difference. I just treated the tank with Maracyn and Ich X, following the instructions from that video I found - check out the 5:25 mark ...

Re: is fin rot still present?
I'm curious about your treatment approach - what's the daily salt dosage you're using, and what percentage of water are you changing daily?
I added around 4 full tablespoons of salt for my 10-gallon tank and did a 50% water change, then added two spoons of salt back in. I did this for a bit ...

Re: A discussion on healing
Thanks for the advice, and just to clarify on the salt, would I use 4 heaping tablespoons for my 10-gallon tank?

Re: A discussion on healing
I removed the meds last night and this morning I'm already seeing that white fuzzy stuff back on his hurt fin.

Re: A discussion on healing
I've taken a closer look and I'm pretty sure it's not his flesh showing, I can see the scales. I'm thinking of doing a water change to get the meds out, they've really stained my anubias. It's been 4 days with the meds and a week with the salt. To be honest, I've never really noticed a difference ...
