Re: Zoanthid polyp bailout, why?

Agreed on the flow. Also, what's your alkalinity at? Zoanthids can bail if alk swings more than 0.5 dKH in a day. Tested it lately?

Re: Zoanthid polyp bailout, why?

Weird vibe, dude. Had the same thing happen last month. Check your flow—mine was too high. Also, any new tankmates? My clownfish decided to mess with 'em right before they bailed.

Flow's a good point. What's your PAR reading under the AI Prime? Zoanthids can bail if light's too intense suddenly ...

Re: about sea horses

I think coltin got it wrong - Pygmy isn't a seahorse species, and I'm not even sure what that is. Also, I couldn't find anything from CITES about a ban on importing wild-caught seahorses.

Hippocampus fuscus might work in your tank, depending on the dimensions, and if you can switch from brine ...

Re: Keeping seahorses with coral banded shrimp?

I'm not convinced it's a good idea to introduce a coflake banded shrimp to control bristleworms, especially with seahorses in the tank. In my opinion, CBS can be quite aggressive and I'd be concerned about potential conflicts. I've seen these species coexist at the Seattle and Long Beach aquariums ...

Re: seeking guidance on trumpet and candy cane corals

Just got the test results back.

Ammonia is zero, nitrite is zero. Nitrates are a bit high, around 20-40 ppm. Not ideal, but I'll get to that in a minute.

I went ahead and cut away the dead tissue. Once I had it out of the tank and could take a closer look at the skeleton, I realized I could ...

Re: seeking guidance on trumpet and candy cane corals

My alkalinity is around 7, using an old API test kit. Looks a bit low to me. I'm kind of hoping I don't need to frag, that's a whole new adventure I'm not sure I'm ready for. Thanks again for the help.

seeking guidance on trumpet and candy cane corals

Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I've been running a 30 gallon setup for over 2 years now. Got my trumpet coral about the same time, and it's been thriving - went from 3 heads to around 30-50 now.

There's this one newer head that's deformed, kinda looks like it tried to split but didn't quite make it ...

Re: is it possible

My clowns had a go at hosting in a euphyllia brain, but it didn't quite work out - they got a bit too aggressive and I started losing heads, it'd literally strip it down to the skeleton.

I've since moved on to a pair of percs, they've taken to hosting in some red grape caulerpa and GSP - seems to ...
