Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium
Thanks for the advice, I'm thinking of swapping the loaches for bristlenoses now, they seem like a good fit. I probably got a bit carried away with my initial list, so I'm going to scale it back to around 20 malawis and add a couple of bristlenoses for some variety. I'll take another look and let ...

Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium
To be honest mate, I'd just stick with the malawis, they're a great choice. Adding some Synodontis catfish, like featherfins or upside-down cats, would complement them nicely. This way, you'll get a more natural look and behavior, with less chance of hybridization. It's just easier all round, for ...

Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium
Thanks floriana, will definitely look into the Synodontis sp. cats, I've heard good things about them being compatible with cichlids.
To be honest, there's just too many great options out there, I think I just need to make a decision and stick with it. I've still got a bit of time to decide anyway ...

Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium
Thanks James, I've done some online research and I'm really keen on the SP44's now or something similar from Lake Vic.

Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium
I'm not convinced the loaches will do well with the malawis, to be honest. The other fish you've listed should be alright, but it does sound like you're trying to replicate a few different tank set-ups in one go. I'd personally avoid the sp44 as they're not malawis, and I've heard the Aulonocara ...

choosing the right fish for my aquarium
I've been going through your Malawi tank lists, and I've put together a list of fish I think would work well in my tank. Assuming they're compatible in your tanks, they should be fine in mine, right?
My tank's a 4ft, 1200w x 477d x 745h mm. Rock setup's not too big, see the picture below. Let me ...

Re: help with fin nipping
Hey Dougmac,
Sorry to hear your tank's not running as smoothly as you'd like. I recall when I first added my initial batch of fish, one of my Cyno Afra had its tail bitten off, but three weeks later it had fully grown back. I've not experienced any serious aggression, just the occasional chase ...
