Re: discus breeding tank dividers

Thanks for the advice. I'll switch to solid dividers and see how it goes. My canister filter's an FX4, and I've got some Java ferns tied to driftwood. Hopefully, the pairs will chill once they can't see each other.

discus breeding tank dividers

Has anyone tried using tank dividers for breeding Discus? I've got a 75 gallon with six adults, and I'm thinking of splitting it to let two pairs spawn without the others messing with them. The dividers are mesh, so water flows through, but I'm worried about stress. My tank's at 84°F, pH 6.5, and I ...

best discus tank mates for color

I've got a 75-gallon tank with six Discus, all around 4 inches. Water's stable at 84°F, pH 6.8, and I do 30% changes twice a week. Looking for tank mates that'll pop with color but won't mess with their vibe. Any suggestions?

Re: why my discus looks pale?

I'd double-check the temp consistency. Fluctuations can cause paleness. What heater are you using? Also, are they showing any other signs, like clamped fins or rapid breathing?

taieta wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 4:11 pm If they're active and eating, that's a good sign. Just keep an eye on their poop—white or stringy means worms for sure. Also, what's your tankmate situation? Crowding can stunt growth.
Second this. Overstocking's a silent killer. Even if params are good, stress hormones can mess with growth.

Re: is my discus too thin?

Agree with taieta on the parasite check. Thinness plus good water and feeding often points to worms. I'd dose PraziPro as a precaution. Also, what's your lighting schedule? Too much light can stress them and affect appetite.

Re: discus breeding pair not spawning

I agree with Vista. Frequent water changes mimic the rainy season, which often encourages spawning. Are there any tankmates stressing them out? Discus can be picky about privacy.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll go with a 55-gallon and step up the water changes. Appreciate the tips on filtration and feeding too.

Discus breeding tank size matters

I'm setting up a breeding tank for my Discus and wondering what size would be best. I've got a pair that's been showing breeding behavior, but my current tank is only 20 gallons. Should I go for 40 or 55 gallons? Also, what's the ideal water change routine for breeding?
