Re: Is a HOB filter sufficient?
HOB filters can work well if you maintain them properly. I've used one on my 30 gallon for years with no issues. Just make sure you're cleaning the media monthly and not replacing it all at once. What's your current maintenance routine like?
I agree with this. I've found that rinsing the media ...

Re: Emergency: My guppy is fading!
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try treating for parasites and adjusting the lighting. I feed them flakes and occasional bloodworms, and the tank has sand substrate. There are 5 other guppies and a few shrimp in there.

Emergency: My guppy is fading!
My guppy has been losing color over the past few days, and now it's almost transparent. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Tank is a 10 gallon with a sponge filter, kept at 78F. It's planted with Java fern and Anubias. What could be causing this?

Help, my bala shark and pleco are devouring every plant
Got a 75 gal tank with a Bala shark and pleco - yeah I know, it's too small, upgrade's on the to-do list. These two are plant-killers, I swear. I've lost count of how many plants I've gone through - we're talking hundreds of dollars down the drain. All my other plants in my other tanks are doing ...

Re: Help with bent back issues in betta fish
It's likely just genetic deformities from inbreeding that's the root cause here. The one with possible swim bladder issues probably has air trapped in its intestines, try withholding dry food for a week and see how it goes - if it swims normally off dry food, then that's probably the issue ...

Re: Help with bent back issues in betta fish
There's a lot of possibilities here. These fish are lucky to have found someone who's willing to give them a good home. Just provide them with the best care you can, and that's all anyone can ask for. You're already doing more than most by taking them in.
Hopefully, some TLC will help them ...

Help with bent back issues in betta fish
I stopped by PetSmart today and they were giving away betta fish that were deemed 'deformed' - thing is, most of them looked perfectly fine. I picked up two that caught my eye, but they both have some issues. The blue one I'm pretty sure has swim bladder disease - he floats to the top on his side ...
