Re: about stevenage specialist aquatics

Yeah they're still based in Crews Hill. I don't recall everything they've got in stock, but they usually have some pretty nice fish. They occasionally get something a bit different in too, which is always worth a look.

I'm looking for some Tangs, do they have those as well?

When I get to the ...

I go to Crews Hill pretty regularly, but I'm not entirely sure where they're based, could you give me an idea of the location?

Re: does this stocking list look good?

Frontosas do grow quite large, reaching around 30cm in length, which might make them a bit too big for my tank. I've noticed that most setups featuring them are species tanks with a small group of Frontosas, rather than a mixed community.

Re: considering a cichlid tank setup

Dems aren't for beginners, they're a challenging species due to their aggression. To be honest, I think they're best suited to experienced keepers who can provide a suitable environment and a decent-sized group, ideally 10 or more. You might want to check out Tropical Fish Find or Aquarists Classified, see if they've got what you're after.

Re: Is hard water a concern?

I'm also in Hertfordshire, and I can tell you that your tap water is probably perfect for Malawis. No need to go down the RO route and then remineflakeize it, that's a lot of hassle. I had Malawis before and the tap water was great for them, but now I'm looking at Discus, it's a different story.

I ...

No, Pims aren't suitable either. The Rift Valley Synodontis are your best bet, they're more compatible with the Yellow Labs and Elongatus mbenji yellow tail you're planning to keep.

So what type of Cichlids are we talking about here, exactly?

My Mbuna used to love cucumber, lettuce and courgette.

Re: how often to do ro water changes

I'm a bit skeptical about the zero nitrate readings unless you're using something like a resin to remove them. I'd still recommend doing a water change at least once a week.

When you do a water change, you're not just removing nitrates, you're also taking out other chemicals and hormones that the ...
