Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I'm curious about the role of lighting in coral growth. Is it the power or the color that makes a bigger difference? I've been running my tank with 325 watts of 6500K CFLs in a 90-gallon tank, and my candy cane coral seems to be growing at a slow but steady pace - it looks healthy, at least. On the ...

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I think another factor we should consider is the color of our corals. I have a colony that's done exceptionally well, growing to over 100 heads in 18 months, and they're whitish green in color. On the other hand, I have another colony that's brownish red with green centers, and they've only grown ...

Re: Optimizing candy cane coral growth
Thanks for the info, guys. I've got a better idea now. I've got a frag with two heads, had it for about six weeks. One of the heads has elongated, but it's still not closed off. It looks healthy, though - puffs up during the day and opens up its tentacles at night.

Optimizing candy cane coral growth
I'm trying to wrap my head around the growth rate of candy cane/trumpet corals. I know they multiply by elongating, forming a figure-8, and then closing off to create two heads. What's considered a healthy rate of growth, though - is it every three months, seven months, or even a year for a head to ...
