Re: Keeping kuhli loaches with shell dwellers
Fish in stores are only there for a brief period, not long enough to show any detrimental effects from being in hard water. It's not the store's concern what happens to them after they're sold. If your fish die, you'll simply go back and buy more. As the buyer, it's your responsibility to research ...

Re: A small hole on the dorsal fin: is it ph related?
Honestly, I'm stumped when it comes to cyanobacteria. Never had to deal with it personally, so I'm not much help there.

Re: betta still has growths after treatment
I've come across some information that suggests using API Stress Coat might not be the best idea. Apparently, aloe vera can cause damage to fish over time, and since API Stress Coat contains aloe vera, I'd advise against using it for this issue.

Re: betta still has growths after treatment
It's difficult to determine from the photo, but I'm curious - is there a lump beneath the white area, and if so, has it ever appeared to deflate, resembling a crater, only to inflate again? I'm asking because I once had a betta with similar symptoms; the lump was on his back, just above the gill ...

Re: are mbuna cichlids suitable for my tank
Most English water companies do provide the general hardness, or GH, value for their water supply, albeit it may take some digging to find it on their website. If you're willing to share the name of your water company, I'd be happy to help you track down the relevant information. However, it's worth ...

Re: finding suitable tankmates for betta
It's interesting that you found your betta to be quite calm in the presence of the neptunes. Some bettas are indeed very laid-back and tend to get picked on rather than being the aggressors. However, it's worth noting that since your betta is new to the tank, he hasn't had a chance to establish his ...

Re: feeding betta pellets
I've had a good experience with Northfin betta pellets, they stood out to me due to their impressive ingredient list, which I think is a great fit for my betta. In comparison, my previous choice, Atisons, didn't quite match up - their formula relied on less desirable ingredients like cereal meals ...

Sheepdove, seriously, do you check the thread age before chiming in? How far back did you have to dig to find this one? It's ancient, from 4 years ago.
I'm still finding this thread helpful 11 years on - no need for the hostility.
Fish keeping knowledge has evolved significantly since 2006 ...

Re: is a betta sorority a viable option?
It's generally suggested that all female bettas be introduced to the tank at the same time. This approach helps minimize aggression, as the pecking order is established right from the start. Adding them one by one can be challenging, as it disrupts the existing hierarchy, forcing the females to re ...

Re: is a betta sorority a viable option?
Hey fellow fish enthusiasts, I'm excited to share my thoughts with you all. As you know, I'm a huge betta fan - I've got a male at home and joint custody of another. My dad, @BadgersSong, has a 30-gallon paludarium, but there's a chance he might upgrade to a 55-gallon setup in the future, freeing ...
