Re: discus hiding from tank light
Discus are low-light river fish in the wild. Your setup's too bright. Reduce intensity to 30-40%, add tall plants like vals for shade. My 90-gallon has dim LEDs on a sunrise/sunset timer, zero hiding issues.

Mine glass surf when the cat's on the stand. They're not dumb, they know predators. You got other pets nearby? Also, what's your water change routine? Big shifts in TDS can make 'em twitchy.

Re: discus tank water change volume
Hartan, if you're feeding heavy, consider adding a pre-filter sponge to the FX4. Catches gunk before it rots. Saved me from daily gravel vacs.

50% ain't overkill if your nitrates creep up. Mine's a 90 gallon with 12 adults, and I do 60% twice a week. Key is matching changes to bioload. What's your stocking like? Also, what temp you running?

Re: why is discus tank always murky?
Check your filter flow rate too. A Fluval 407 might not be enough for a 75-gallon with that many fish. I run two filters on my 90-gallon to keep things crystal clear. Also, how old is your filter media? If it's too old, it might not be trapping particles effectively.

Re: discus tank ph crash recovery
How's the temp? Sometimes bumping it to 86°F helps 'em recover faster. Just don't go higher—Discus can't take it.

Re: discus tank ph crash recovery
First, test your KH. If it's below 2, that's the culprit. Add crushed coral in a media bag to your filter to stabilize it. Also, check your CO2 levels if you're running injected. How often do you water change?
Yep, crushed coral is a lifesaver. I'd also cut back on CO2 if you're blasting it ...

Thanks for the info. I've considered Waterbox before, but never actually tried them out. What's your experience with them? Are they reliable?

6ft Prostar rimless tank with sump- recommedation
Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of getting a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft Prostar rimless tank for my next project. It's mainly for reef, but can also work for freshwater. The tank comes with a ready sump, which I think is a great feature. Total volume is around 240 gallons.
