Re: How Do You Deal with Plant Pests?

Quarantine is smart. I also dip new plants in a weak salt solution before they go in. Just a teaspoon of aquarium salt per gallon, soak for 10 minutes. Kills most pests without harsh chemicals.

Re: phosphate control in reef tank

What's your lighting schedule like? I found cutting my photoperiod by an hour and adding more flow near the sandbed helped keep detritus from settling. Also, are you rinsing frozen food before feeding?

Re: Is my betta a female?

I suppose a name change is in order. Given the tank's design, removing the mirror isn't an option, so I'll have to rearrange some things to minimize the impact.

Re: Is my betta a female?

I'm having trouble locating the ovipositor, and I'm pretty sure I'd notice a white spot on a black and red fish. I've tried to get a flare going but no luck. My tank already has a mirror back, so my betta is used to its reflection. If this does turn out to be a male, will having the mirror there ...

Is my betta a female?

I recently picked up a female betta from a pet store, and I've noticed something pretty interesting - her fins have grown incredibly long in a really short amount of time. Compared to the female bettas I've had in the past, hers are definitely longer. It's got me wondering, could she actually be a ...

Re: Can multiple betta fish coexist safely in one space

I acquired the fish from the same breeder twice and a pet store once, they were all sisters from the same spawn that had been together since hatching from the breeder, as for the pet store ones, I'm not sure, but I switched to a breeder due to issues with disease, not aggression.

Re: Can multiple betta fish coexist safely in one space

I've had no luck with this, despite buying tiny young fish from the same breeder batch. Every time, I've had one that's just ridiculously aggressive. Fish end up covered in those little half-moon bite marks, tails aren't just torn but completely ripped off, and even pectoral fins get shredded. I've ...

Re: Can multiple betta fish coexist safely in one space

I do know of one person who managed to keep 2 males in a heavily planted 6ft long tank which they had each adopted one end of.
