Re: adding new fish to my aquarium
I still think quarantine is a good call. You can keep an eye on the fish, make sure it's eating well, and if something does pop up, it's way easier to treat. No need to throw meds at it if it's not necessary, just quarantine and observe.

Re: adding new fish to my aquarium
I'm not a fan of preventatively medicating fish. Shipping already stresses them out, and throwing meds into the mix doesn't seem like the best approach to me.

Re: need advice as a new sw user
A goby and pistol shrimp combo would be perfect for your tank.
As for the scooter blenny, it's not entirely out of the question for a tank of your size, but there's a catch. In the wild, they mainly feed on copepods and other small crustaceans, so it's tough to replicate that in a small tank ...

Re: A tang white spot headache
I feel for you, BoldVoy, it's like this issue just won't quit. If this is indeed ich, you're already through one cycle. Given the tang's behavior, I'd probably give it another week. He's not showing any secondary symptoms, like lethargy or rubbing against rocks, so that's a plus. Just observe if it ...

Re: A 55-gallon aquarium setup
It really depends on the size of the juvenile trigger you can get. I've come across some at my LFS that were only about 2 inches long. At that size, it's likely to be around 3 years before they outgrow a 55g.

In a 280 litre tank, I'd say it's definitely doable.

Re: is a protein skimmer necessary?
A small HOB refugium would be a better investment in my opinion, it's something I'd consider over a protein skimmer for your tank.

Forget panther groupers, they're not that exciting. Miniatus Grouper is the way to go - perfect for a massive tank like yours. Having multiple full-sized lion fish would be incredible, but feeding them would be a nightmare, and I sense you're looking for something low-maintenance.
