Re: Keeping demasoni and yellow labs together
In a 60g tank, you're already pushing the limits. I'd advise against adding more labs to the mix, it's just gonna increase the stress. If I were you, I'd actually consider getting rid of the labs altogether and adding a few more demosani instead. I know it sounds harsh, but demosani can turn on you ...

Re: Keeping demasoni and yellow labs together
I think keeping this as a species tank would be the way to go, especially with that many Demasoni. They're tiny, but don't let their size fool you - they're super aggressive. With that many Demasoni and only a few Labs and Peacocks, I'd bet you'll be replacing Yellow Labs pretty regularly.

Re: setting up a 27 gallon cichlid tank
Africans are brutal, no matter the species. I've had my share of experience - kept them, bred them, and learned my lesson. A 29-gallon tank is a recipe for disaster unless you're breeding with a confirmed male and two females. Double or triple that size is the bare minimum for these territorial ...

Re: setting up a 27 gallon cichlid tank
Overstocking a cichlid tank is the way to go, but 29 gallons just isn't enough space to do it right. Your sister's plan to add just three fish, especially since they're not the same species, is a recipe for disaster. What's likely to happen is the dominant fish will either kill the other two or ...

Re: converting a 29-gallon community tank to african cichlids
You can give it a shot, see how things go. No current issues, might not have any at all. Just sharing my experience, that's all.

Re: converting a 29-gallon community tank to african cichlids
To me, it's a Red Zebra. As it grows, you'll notice those teeth and the potential for serious damage. If it's calm now, keep a close eye on it. Since it's still young, you might not see any issues. I had a real beast on my hands, though.

Re: converting a 29-gallon community tank to african cichlids
Here's my take on it. I think you should consider rehoming the Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos. They can be pretty feisty and I've found that they just don't do well in community setups. I've kept Africans for years and my experience is that they're best in a species-specific tank. I've had issues with ...
