Re: Converting my 5 footer to a fowlr, any stocking ideas
Hi, just a quick update - been thinking about my tanks and I've recently set up a 2ft cube reef, which I'm really enjoying. I'm now considering a change for my 5 footer, thinking of switching it to freshwater and keeping the 2ft as my only reef tank. Not 100% decided yet, but if I do go for it, it ...

Converting my 5 footer to a fowlr, any stocking ideas
ive recently started a small 2ft tank for coflakes, so i'm thinking of going for a fowlr setup in my 5 footer, which is a rio 400.
first off, i'll go over the equipment i've got -
a v2 400 skimmer (do i really need this if i'm just keeping fish and some inverts?)
a serifill 1300 external filter ...

Re: maintaining calcium levels for corals
Good to know! I'll stop stressing about my softies then. Maybe I'll try adding an LPS or two down the line.

Re: maintaining calcium levels for corals
I've got the same issue in my 40-gallon. My calcium's at 390 ppm, but my zoas and mushrooms seem fine. Do soft corals even care about calcium levels? I'm using Red Sea salt, weekly 10% water changes.

Re: comparison of spotted and normal manderin
i think mine is female, so that's a good start. my lfs is pretty good, they always feed the fish i'm buying before i take them home, if they can't be bothered to feed them then i don't bother buying.
i've got some brine shrimp pellets, gonna try those with mine, anyone know any other good pellets ...

Re: comparison of spotted and normal manderin
so i'll probably check the sex of mine and see if i can get a normal manderin of the opposite sex, and find a jar for it too.
if mine's a female, should i get another female or should they be opposite like males and females?
i'm thinking like betta females, they get along but males don't, is it ...

Re: comparison of spotted and normal manderin
If I got another, I'd get one that eats frozen brine, but I think I've got a good amount of pods already, I mean I occasionally see one floating dead and the clownfish eats it, and I see them swimming about. I'll check the sex of mine, see what I've got.

comparison of spotted and normal manderin
I'm considering adding a normal mandarin goby to my 100-gallon tank, I already have a spotted mandarin. I know they generally don't do well with their own kind, but since they're different colors and the tank is quite large, I was wondering if I might be able to make it work.
