Congrats on the Kribs. I had a blast with them back in the day, they're definitely a fun species to work with.

I've been thinking, having kept sps and lps in separate systems, I've heard that lps do better in water with slightly higher nutrient levels. But honestly, I'm not entirely sold on the idea that they can't both thrive in similar conditions. Has anyone else had experience with this?

I've been adding a single drop of Kent iron/manganese daily to my SPS reef tank for ages. Never really bothered with the instructions, figuring a drop in 80 gallons with all that coral and chaeto would be more than sufficient. But then my buddy's Gonioporas started shrinking in his 220-gallon tank ...

So, should I remove the Riccia or just make a note about the pH level needing to be lower for it to do well? Thanks again for your reply!

I like this thread, it's really helpful for me since I just got some cichlids and was wondering what kind of plants would do well in the tank. I really appreciate the feedback, and I'm glad you think the thread is a good idea.

I did try to cover a wide range of cichlids, not just mbuna, so hopefully the list will be helpful to people with different species.

Plants in a Cichlid tank should be anchored - either in pots or attached to wood/rocks. Different Cichlid species treat plants differently; some don't mind, while others will.

A list of plants with the best chance of surviving in a Cichlid Aquarium is provided below.

Low Lighting:
