Re: changing substrate in an established aquarium
Hi everyone, I'm new here.
I've had my 10 gallon tank for almost a year now, with a betta in it. I think I've got a good grasp on taking care of him - he's still doing well. My tank's established, with 0 ppm ammonia and nitrites, and 10 ppm nitrates. It's mainly got artificial decorations and ...

Re: changing substrate in an established aquarium
Welcome to TFF.
In an established aquarium like yours, bacteria are present on every surface, forming what's known as a biofilm. While a lot of attention is focused on nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and then to nitrate, this is only a small part of the bacteria ecosystem. The ...

Re: Growing water wisteria: tips and advice
A photo would really help us figure out what's going on with your Water Wisteria. This is a fast-growing plant, so it's weird that it's not thriving for you. Good light and nutrients are key for these plants.

Re: Is my betta fish afraid of cory catfish?
I just set up a 10-gallon tank with my betta and some Emerald cory catfish, but now he's freaking out whenever the cories make sudden moves. I'm not sure what to do - should I just give him space and let him get accustomed to their behavior or is there something I can do to help him feel more at ...

Re: Is my betta fish afraid of cory catfish?
I must advise against housing a male betta with other fish. It's not uncommon for bettas to take a dislike to tankmates, or for those tankmates to harass the betta, particularly if they're sedate and have long fins. While cories are generally a safer choice, I wouldn't personally recommend it. The ...

Re: betta bloating issues after frozen bloodworm feedings
I think it's possible that your boy Pisces' belly is bloated due to gorging on the bloodworms, but there could be other factors at play as well.
To be honest, bloodworms aren't the healthiest food option, and I'd recommend limiting them to once a week. They can cause internal issues, and it's hard ...

Re: How long does dwarf sage take to spread and grow?
From my experience, dwarf sage tends to be slower in growth compared to chain swords, which I find quite similar. It's not uncommon for them to take a bit of time before sending out runners, but I'd say it's more likely to be a couple of months rather than a few short weeks. Once they do start ...

Re: Growing anubis in pale conditions
I agree with coltin about the algae issue - it's likely related to the lighting and those fertilizers. Iron, being a micronutrient, is probably causing more harm than good here, especially if it's in excess. This could lead to algae growth and plant decline. As for the plant species, I'm not an ...

Re: how to keep your plants in good shape
I'm going to take a guess here that fertilizers are the main issue. The lighting appears to be LED, but that's about it - I don't have any other info. You didn't mention what other fertilizers you're using, aside from the carbon supplement. I'd recommend getting a comprehensive supplement. I've had ...

Re: how to keep your plants in good shape
Looking at the floating plants in your tank, I think the one on the right is a Salvinia, but the dying one on the left, I'm not sure - could be water lettuce or another Salvinia.
