Re: why are my plants turning brown?
Yeah, Anubias is usually bulletproof. Maybe something's off with your water changes. You using a dechlorinator? Chloramine can mess with plants over time.

Re: why are my plants turning brown?
Lighting duration and intensity are likely the culprits. Nicrew ClassicLED isn't super strong, but 8 hours might be too much for Anubias. Reduce to 6 hours and add a liquid fertilizer. Also, check for algae, as it can compete with plants for nutrients.

Re: Decorating a Betta tank on a budget
For plants, go with java fern or anubias. They're hardy, don't need fancy substrate, and you can tie 'em to rocks or driftwood. I got mine from a local hobbyist for like $2 per plant. Way cheaper than pet stores.

Re: Choosing the right tank mates for your betta.
It's disheartening to see the same misinformation being spread by online sources and pet store employees. Unfortunately, you're getting caught up in it.
Male bettas are not suited for community tanks, and adding other fish to their environment is a recipe for disaster. While it may work ...

Re: Choosing the right tank mates for your betta.
I would advise against keeping a betta with neon tetras. In my experience, bettas are not ideal community fish and do better on their own. While some bettas might coexist with shrimps, it's not a guarantee and some may see them as food.
As for angelfish, they require a larger tank than 30 gallons ...

Choosing the right tank mates for your betta.
I'm considering turning my 30+ gallon tank into a community setup with a single betta, a few cherry shrimps, and maybe some neon tetras or similar. I've done some research and I know bettas can be territorial, but I've been getting mixed advice. People keep telling me not to keep a betta in the tank ...
