Re: Discus fry tank heater choice

If you wanna splurge, go for a Cobalt Neo-Therm. They're pricier but super accurate and slim. My fry tank's been at 84.5°F for months with no tweaks. Plus, the LED display is handy for quick checks without opening the hood.

Re: blondie needs assistance

I'm curious, how long have you had your bushy nose albino pleco, and what's its size like? I've got a hunch that having a pleco, even a relatively small one like a bristlenose, in a five-gallon tank with a betta might be making it tougher to get your ammonia levels under control. Plecos are ...

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?

They can adapt, but it's not ideal. I've kept them in hard water (250 ppm, pH 7.6) for a year, but growth was slower and colors less vibrant. Weekly 50% water changes with RO mix helped. What's your feeding routine? High protein diets might offset some stress.

Re: help for a sick betta

I didn't see your post initially, but I'm glad I went back to review the thread - I'd love to hear your thoughts on my fin rot and possible swim bladder problem. I've had him for about six months now and have moved him between two different tanks, but both were fully cycled before he was introduced ...

Re: Feeling defeated and considering giving up

I think I see what might be going on with the slimy film on Grosso - it's probably just excess mucus he's producing to try and soothe the irritation on his scales and skin. That white bump near his Sprig in the photo does look a bit suspicious, though. I'd definitely recommend pulling the spiderwood ...

Re: introducing my new betta breeding pair

Those bettas are stunning. I'd absolutely love to see a breeding journal from you, with photos and details on how you prepare them for mating and rear the young. It's not often we get to see the process, and I think many people would find it really interesting, especially with bettas being so ...

Re: Betta fish dying suddenly

My female betta's not doing great and I'm worried she's on her way out. She's hiding at the bottom of my tank, near the corner, making it hard for me to get a good look at her. I did manage to catch a glimpse of her abdomen area when she swam by, and it's pretty swollen. She's still eating, but I ...

Re: issues with fish food quality

While I'm all for feeding live insects to fish, in this case, I wouldn't. Fish food contains a lot of oils that can go rancid if the food is old and stored improperly, and if there are bugs in it, then it's likely rancid. So no, I wouldn't feed it to the fish.

Fish food keeps for a long time, but ...

Re: I struggle with plant care and keep killing my plants

I'm really sorry to hear about the hyacinths - they did look lovely. It's just so frustrating, isn't it? I've been there too, though, and I'm not just talking about floating plants. I used to be absolutely terrible with plants - all kinds, houseplants, garden plants, you name it. I'd either forget ...
