Re: Tank temperature and stocking tips

Yeah, sand can trap gunk if you're not careful. I use a turkey baster for spot-cleaning between changes. Works like a charm.

Good call on the sand. Also, how often are you doing water changes? Corys are sensitive to nitrates.

Re: Tank temperature and stocking tips

78°F is actually pretty solid for both Neon Tetras and Corydoras. They'll do fine in that range, but keep an eye on consistency. Big swings mess with their stress levels.

Re: best food for LPS corals

I use a mix of reef roids and oyster eggs. My tank is a 30-gallon with AI Prime lighting. Parameters are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

Re: learning about flame hawkfish

From my understanding, cleaner shrimp are generally safe from this fish, it's the tiny ones like sexy shrimp that might be at risk. Most of the time, snails and hermits will also be left alone. The larger hawks, like the arc-eye, are the ones that give this family a bad reputation.

Re: Is afw a valid coral identification term

Honestly, it looks like bite marks to me, that's just my take on it.

I'm in agreement with the cautious approach. My personal experience with AEFW was mostly on smooth-skinned corals, as I've never had a large collection of millis. The signs I've seen were quite different from the photos posted ...

Re: Is afw a valid coral identification term

AEFW bites are typically small, well-defined marks that usually appear in a line. Check out some of the threads on AEFW, there are plenty of pics that show this.

Re: Is afw a valid coral identification term

I'm not seeing the bite marks you're talking about. The pale areas don't look like it to me. Maybe the tiny white dots, but they don't really resemble CF bite marks or trails.

Re: Is afw a valid coral identification term

Honestly, I'm just not seeing it, not convinced it's AEFW. What's making you so certain that's what you're dealing with?
