Re: exploring nicaragua in the old world

The pH might actually work out, but personally, I wouldn't risk it, Nics are pretty fragile despite their bold nature. They're always starting trouble, but can't really take the heat.

By the way, where are you from? I know a few people looking for Nics, so we might be able to help you rehome them ...

Re: does my setup suit cichlids well

To prevent topples, arrange the rocks like they'd settle naturally in a river. Think about how they'd end up if water flowed over them - they'd likely land on one side.

Place the large, heavy ones at the base and the thinner ones towards the top. That way, if the thinner rocks do fall, the damage ...

Re: Cichlid behavior seems off, what could be the cause

I'd love to see a video of your fish in action. Typically, shell dweller cichlids live in family groups and get along pretty well with their relatives. It's usually during breeding or when unfamiliar fish enter their territory that things get a bit testy.

Yeah, that's right, multis and similis ...

Re: Made my decision

I think you'll be alright with those choices, though I've got a soft spot for the yellow labs - they're a lot more laid-back than the rest of the crew. They might get a bit of a rough ride, though.

From what I've seen, the dividers and all that don't really make a difference. The thing with Mbuna ...

Re: Made my decision

Considering your species list, I was wondering if you're thinking of adding some dwarf petricola snails to the mix? I've been eyeing a trio of them for my own setup.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma with the rock setup. I bought some fake rocks a while back and I'm quite happy with the layout ...

Yeah, hopefully - most Petricola species have been reclassified as Lucipinnis, which is pretty similar. Polli sp. white is also a ...

Re: Made my decision

I don't know a lot about cichlids, but I'm glad you've finally got a plan in place.

Made my decision

I've finally got my chance to set up my 300 litre, 4 foot tank after waiting for the building renovations to finish. No more delays, I'm excited to get going. Initially, I did consider a massive 1000 litre, 8 foot tank but the cost was too high for me to justify, especially with the 12-week build ...

Re: A male peacock in a 75-gallon hap tank

It's quite surprising how quiet the Malawi scene is, isn't it?
