Re: Filter question

Yeah Francis, that setup is awesome, but I think the chair needs an upgrade, maybe something comfy like a recliner?

Re: Filter question

I've got the FX6 on my 125 and it does the job. I also run an Odyssea 350 for backup, it's a powerhead with 2 sponges. For a 75, the FX6 is overkill. I'd actually go with 2 HOB filters. On my 90g, I use a Tidal 110 and a Marineland 350, works great.

Re: Filter question

Don't see the point in turning the flow back. Filters are rated for tank size, so it's redundant to me. Bigger is better than too small, that's my motto. Had experience with different brands, and some filters are overrated. As long as you've got good surface flow, that's all you need, along with turn over. Surface area is key for gas exchange, which happens due to barometric pressure, not the filter itself. Oxygen is needed for the BB to thrive, that's why turn over is important.

Plus I don't see why you would want to turn the flow back. Filters are rated by how much turn over is needed for the size tank being used on. Kind of redundant I would think.

I've found most filters to be overrated, and with a few tweaks, they're fully customizable. If Luxury already has the FX6, I'd say use it – no sense in it going to waste. But as for adding another filter, I still think it's unnecessary.

Re: Filter question

To put things in perspective, the FX6 is actually designed for a 400g tank and pushes nearly 1000 gph. The FX4, on the other hand, is meant for a 250g tank and moves around 700gph. These filters are built for larger tanks, and I'm not even sure if the flow rates are with or without media. Either way, it's definitely overkill for a 75.
