You know what else might help, some floating plants like duckweed or frogbit could reduce the light a bit.

You know, first thing to do is check the back and sides of the tank for any reflections. I think this might be the main culprit here, unless your light is really, really bright. I've found that LED lights are super bright when they're new, but they tend to dim down a bit after a few months or years.
