Yo, my Discus hated the FX4's flow too. I slapped a pre-filter on the intake and cranked the output down. Now they vibe near the driftwood. Also, try feeding near the calm spots—they'll learn where to chill.
Pre-filters are clutch. They also reduce intake suction, which can stress fish. What's your stocking density? Overcrowding amplifies flow issues.

My Discus tank's a 55g with a cheapo HOB. Flow's low, but they still hide sometimes. Maybe my angelfish are bullying them? Got Java ferns and a basic LED light. Water's soft, pH 6.8. Should I upgrade the filter?

Angelfish can be jerks to Discus. Try rearranging the decor to break territories. And yeah, a canister or dual sponge filters would help. What's your feeding routine?

Ditch the HOB, fam. Canisters are way better for Discus. I run two sponges and a small canister in my 60g. Flow's gentle but steady. Also, throw in some catappa leaves—they're like fish Xanax.
