I've heard mixed things about marimo balls. Some say they're safe, others say they can harbor bacteria. Anyone have experience with them?

Marimo's fine if you squeeze 'em out during water changes. My betta likes pushing them around. Just don't let 'em sit in dirty water too long.

Cryptocoryne wendtii is another option. It's a root feeder, so plant it in the sand. Mine melted at first but bounced back after a month. Now it's thriving.

I've used 'em for years with no issues. Just roll 'em during water changes to keep 'em clean. Bettas seem to dig 'em.
