Yo, my dude, same prob here. Switched to Seachem Prime and it's been chill. That stuff locks ammonia up tight.

Plants do help, but they won't fix the root cause. You still need a cycled filter to handle the bio load.

Exactly. Plants are a bonus, not a solution. Focus on getting the cycle stable first, then add plants if you want.
