I've got sand substrate and a mix of Java Fern and Anubias. Lighting is basic LED, no CO2. The plants are growing slow but steady. The Corys seem to love digging in the sand.

Slow-growing plants like those won't do much for nitrate reduction. You might wanna add some fast growers like Hornwort or Water Wisteria if you're worried about stocking. They're easy to care for and will suck up nitrates faster.

Hornwort's a beast for that. I throw it in all my tanks, and it's like a nitrate vacuum. Plus, fish love hiding in it.

If you're gonna add more plants, just make sure you're not overcrowding the tank visually. It's a balance between function and aesthetics. How's your filter flow? Angels prefer slower currents, so if you've got a strong filter, you might need to baffle it.
