Sounds like a solid plan. Post pics when it's done, yeah?

If you're using sand, get a fine grain so it's easy to clean. Coarse sand can trap debris and mess with your water quality.

And don't forget a heater! Bettas need warm water, and a sleek, adjustable one can blend right into your setup.
