I've had success with Java Moss. It's not as fast as floaters, but it's reliable and easy to grow.

Exactly. Plants help, but they're not a substitute for good maintenance. Aim for 25% weekly changes.

Also, don't forget to test your tap water. Sometimes the source has ammonia, and that's a whole other headache.

If you're adding new plants, give them time to adjust. They might not start absorbing ammonia right away, but they'll get there.

And avoid overfeeding. Excess food = excess ammonia. It's a common rookie mistake.

Once your plants are established, they'll help stabilize the tank. Just be patient and keep an eye on your params.
