Yep, hardness is key. Also, what's your pH? Fry do better in acidic water, like 6.0 to 6.5.

pH is 6.2 here. Fry are thriving. If yours is higher, consider adding some peat or almond leaves to soften it up.

Almond leaves are clutch. They'll tint the water, but the fry love it. Also, keep the tank dimly lit. Bright lights stress them out.

Consistency is everything. If your water params fluctuate, even slightly, it'll mess with the fry's development. Stick to a strict routine for the first few months.
