I picked up this large Anubis plant from Petco a few days ago, and I'm a bit confused. I already have a baby Anubis at home, so I figured this would be a nice addition. But here's the thing - the plant I bought came with two separate plants, and they look nothing alike. One looks like my baby Anubis, but the other one is completely different. I'm wondering if they're both actually Anubis, or if I somehow ended up with two different species in the same pot.

The second photo is definitely an Anubias, but I'm not convinced about the first one. It looks like the plant in the second photo might be planted in the gravel, but I'm not sure if that's just the photo or not. Either way, Anubias tend to do better when attached to something, as burying the rhizome can cause it to rot.

Yeah, they're in the substrate right now. I've got some artificial driftwood on the way, should be here Sunday, and I'll attach them to that using fishing line or thread. Had real driftwood in the tank for a bit over a year, but it was huge and taking up too much space, so I removed it. Didn't want to tie up the other one that looks so different unless I was sure it was anubias.

I'm still waiting for my new artificial driftwood to arrive - it's supposed to get here on Sunday.

I'd let them float for now till your new decor arrives, then you can attach them properly.

I appreciate the advice, I'll remove them from the substrate for now. The first plant though, it was sold to me as an Anubis, but it looks nothing like my other one or the one in the second picture - is it an Anubis or something else entirely?

I think the first photo is an Anubias gracilis. Here are some more pics and info for comparison to see if it matches the one in your tank. They don't do great with roots in substrate, by the way - low-maintenance like most Anubias.
