Caring for christmas moss: a beginner's guide

I'm having some trouble with my Christmas moss - it's just not growing like I expected. I give it light daily, but that doesn't seem to be making a difference. What's going on here? I've read they're hardy but slow-growing, but I'm starting to think it might be something else. Maybe it's my water parameters that are off - could that be the issue?

I've got snails already, but the thing is my fertilizer has copper in it, which isn't exactly snail-friendly. And yeah, I do have assassins in there, they're carnivores, I put them in to hunt down pest snails.

I actually have a light that can go down to low settings, it's pretty flexible.

@Ravenes I think adding more plants could help with the algae issue, might be worth a shot.
